Portraitist

EILEEN MAYHEW has been painting portraits professionally in the medium of oil, pastel and charcoal for over two decades, capturing individual expressions and life like flesh tones. Portraiture has been her way to record the beauty of humanity, describing each individual vividly.

Her works are hanging in public and private collections throughout New England and are exhibited prominent galleries and shows. Her award winning paintings have earned her membership in the prestigious American Society of Portrait Artists , as well as an member of the Portrait Society of Atlanta and the Portrait Institute of New York City.

She has studied closely with master portrait artist Frank Covino, who introduced her to the academic working methods of the Old Masters. This has led to her classical realist series of oil paintings using these techniques, which include underpaintings, glazing and textures, as well as the alla prima techniques of the Impressionists. This great teacher has helped the artist in her ability to produce portraits with accurate likeness that represent lasting works of art.

As a commissioning patron, you are entitled to expect and receive a work of impeccable technical craftsmanship, with a life expectancy of hundreds of years. Ms. Mayhew is a master of the highly exacting craft of fine arts portrait painting. You can be absolutely confident that only the finest permanent pigments ground in pure oils, are used. Her canvases are the finest European linens.

A finely crafted oil or pastel painting has such an incredible life expectancy, it is essentially permanent. The artist's ability to achieve a superb, speaking likeness is the product of years of training and years of rigorous self-discipline and experience. In each of her works she captures the spirit, immortalizes the likeness to stand on its own as a work of art, an object of pride and tradition, a fine and lasting tribute for generations and centuries to come.

Ms. Mayhew is recognized in her art community through extensive juried exhibitions, awards given , and numerous newspaper articles and newspaper photographs. She is often called upon to demonstrate and lecture at the local schools and art associations in her community.

Eileen considers herself a portraitist, but also works in other fields of art. Her interests include watercolor and oil landscapes and still life.

The artist is skilled at producing accurate replicas of old master paintings.
