Carol Guidi believes the history of art proves conclusively that most painters who have left a mark in history have trained by studying and learning from the great masters. The old masters are dead and gone long ago, but as teachers they are still very much alive in the work they’ve left behind.
A quote by Cennino Cennini (c.1365-1440) has been Carol’s inspiration and guiding principle, “Now, you of noble mind, who love this profession of painting, be guided by these principles: love (of art), respect for it , willingness to abide by the rules and perseverance. As soon as you can, place yourself under the guidance of a master and remain with him as long as possible.” Craftsman’s Handbook: The Italian Il Libro Dell Arte. By studying with Frank Covino, master painter, she has been instructed in the methods, processes and techniques used by the masters.
Carol uses professional ingredients and techniques used by the great masters: Belgian linen canvas, panels, resin medium, marble dust gesso and professional paints. Because of Carol’s passion and respect of the old masters works, she applies her knowledge of the master’s techniques to each of her masterpiece copies to uphold the integrity of the original paintings. Her paintings are museum quality and will last as long as the masters.
Along with Carol’s extensive training in the techniques and methods by the great masters, she has also studied the philosophies and art histories from ancient civilizations to present day. She appreciates this great knowledge given to her. As with the masters, it is now her duty to pass these inspiring principles on.
